Development of the typography and publishing in Russian province was linked with reorganizing activity of Ekaterina the Great. During XIX century that branch of industry developed intensively. The number of printing factories was grown, publishing repertoire diversified. New participants were involved into the process of design and publishing of printed output. Among them were different types of institutions, cultural and scientific organizations, charitable institutions, authors, typographers and booksellers. Province actively tackled its own ways of development of book culture and printing enterprise. Study of problems, bounded up with origins and distribution of typography on the vast territories of Russian Empire, presents perspective field for complex analysis of provincial society in pre-Revolutionary Russia and gives the opportunity to evaluate the essence of these processes in the social and cultural environment of provincial towns. Meanwhile the study was delayed for a long time. As the result, rich seam of cultural and economic life of uyezdprovince Russia proved to be beyond scientific cognition. Regional bibliology in last decades is in a new stage of its development. Nevertheless, in spite of the fact that the whole series of the scientific publication appeared and new methodology was worked out, most of the aspects are still remains explored insufficiently. The article analyses preconditions of the typography development in Russian Province, describes legislative regulation of the establishing of the provincial typographies, traced the history of typography from the end of XVIII – first half of XIX century. Present research based on achievements of Russian scholars, legislative acts published in Comprehensive Collection of Laws of Russian Empire and archive materials from Russian State Historical Archive and State Archive of Tver Region.
